When I was a younger man I came to the Whitsundays

When I was a younger man I came to the Whitsundays to explore these beautiful islands. Every cell in your body is regenerated after 7 years so I’m at least 3x different to what I was then. Every new place, person and situation presents to me any opportunity to release old patterns and recognise habits that don’t serve me anymore. In this way I hope to become a new better me with every possibility that gets thrown my way. Bring on this years new life lessons. I was fortunate to visit Myanmar( formerly British

I was fortunate to visit Myanmar( formerly British Burma) in 2015. The modest, peaceful people were overwhelmingly optimistic for the upcoming elections.They believed Aung San Suu Kyi (many referred to her as ‘The Lady’) and her NLD party would lead the country out of 40 years of oppressive military rule.
She won that election and the next one in 2020 by a supermajority. But despite this the Tatmadaw, Myanmar’s military, on the day parliament was to resume earlier this year, reinstated itself into power. Declaring a one year state of emergency, it has violently quashed protest and taken control of media resources.
Ms Suu Kyi was sentenced to 2 years detention for incitement and contravening corona virus regulations. With over 1000 protesters dead and a Nobel Peace laureate locked up, possibly for the rest of her life, you need to ask why no-one wants to intervene. Australia haven’t hesitated to ‘liberate’ the people of resource rich Middle Eastern countries in recent times but don’t seem to be too interested in defending the democratic interests of our South East Asian neighbour.
Here’s hoping authoritarian rule, deprivation of liberty and the erosion of freedom of choice doesn’t seep its way into my world.
Regardless of the political climate I will always have the fondest memories of this exotically beautiful land and it’s humble, unassuming inhabitants.
